New Zealand opening pair of Tony Latham and Devon Conway set a new record of the highest partnership for the first wicket in the World Test Championship history when they scored together 323 runs while playing on the first day of the third and final Test against West Indies in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday (December 18).
They broke the record previously held by Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal of India who made 317 runs against South Africa at Visakhapatnam in 2019.
Latham scored 137, his 15th century in 91 Tests while Conway made 227, his career-best. This was his sixth hundred in just 12 Test matches, and his second double ton — his first since his debut in 2021 against England at Lord’s.
