New Zealand’s top-order batter Finn Allen blasted the fastest century in T20 World Cup history while playing in Kolkata on March 4 as his side hammered South Africa by nine wickets to reach the final.
He hit an unbeaten 100 off just 33 balls, to obliterate the previous record of 47 balls by Chris Gayle of the West Indies against England at Mumbai in 2016.
In a brutal display of controlled power hitting, Allen smashed eight sixes and 10 fours. He finished with two fours, two sixes and a four off successive balls to hit the winning runs and reach his hundred at Eden Gardens.
Together with Tim Seifert (58), he made 117 runs off just 9.1 overs for the opening stand.
The Auckland-born 26-year-old right-hand batter, who can also keep wicket, plays T20Is since 2021 and ODIs since 2022 for New Zealand.
